An emerging figure in classical and contemporary flamenco, David began his musical studies at the age of 4 as a classically-trained pianist. Eventually his musical wanderings gained focus in Granada, Spain, where he studied for years under such renowned artists as Rafaelin Habichuela, Emilio Maya, Ramon del Paso, Pascual de Lorca, Paco Cortes (of Sevilla) and Jason McGuire (while in California). David has continued to make return trips to Spain to further his inspiration and mastery. In addition to performing regularly in both traditional and theatrical flamenco shows, David often collaborates with an array of diverse musicians, forming unique and exciting jazz, Middle Eastern and flamenco-influenced ensembles. His compositional works include the scores for 2 contemporary versions of adapted Spanish literary classics including a 2006 Theatre of Yugen production of Don Quixote, and a 2007 Shotgun Players' production of Garcia Lorca's, "Blood Wedding" (done in collaboration with Yaelisa). His 2007 debut CD release called "Found in Spain" (2007), a series of original pieces rooted in traditional flamenco forms, was produced by Jason McGuire and largely recorded at the studio of rock legend and flamenco enthusiast, Jackson Browne.
David appears on stage with such celebrated flamenco artists as Yaelisa, La Tania, La Fibi, La Mónica, Jesus Montoya, Melissa Cruz, Felix de Lola, Fanny Ara, Roberto Zamora, Paco Albiac, and many others. Currently he is producing a 2nd CD of original works, and holds guitar lessons both privately and in workshops at “The Jazz School” in Berkeley.
